How To Verify Java Version
Java technology is one of the most widely used platform for developing applications. Many browsers(websites) and applications require Java installed in order to run in your personal computers and laptop.
If you are not a Java developer then Java Run Time Environment(JRE) is sufficient in most of the cases, but if you are a Java developer then you will require the Java Software Development Kit (Java SDK).
You can have more than one version of Java installed on your machine but at any given time application can use only one version of Java, and you may want to check whether the Java installation is correct and what is the current version being used.
Verify Java Version From Command Promt
Most of the Java developer use this approach to check the current available version of Java. Java provide many command line option to perform day to day activities, one of such option is -version . You can type below command on command promt to see the currently available version of the Java. This command is common across all the operating systems.
Verify Java Version Online
If you require the Java for running Applet in your browser or website you are browsing requires Java then verifying the Java using browser will be easy and does not require any technical knowledge.
Step 1 :
Access the official website of Oracle to verify online. Here is the link Verify Java
Step 2 :
Click on Agree and Continue button. Your browser may ask permissions to run the applet. Allow the browser to run the Application.
Step 3 :
You may see below dialog box asking permission to run the Java application. This is the same application which will verify and get the Java version for you. Allow this application.
Step 4 :
You will see screen similar to below one. If your current version is older then you can upgrade to latest available version.
