Arrays are order collection of elements of the same type, elements in array are order by their index position. In Java Arrays are Objects and can be used for storing Objects or primitive types.
Arrays can be single or multidimensional. Below figure shows how the elements are stored in Array and how they are indexed in single dimensional array. Array index always starts with zero and hence the last index is always one less than the total size of the array. The elements in an Array can be accessed randomly using their index position.
In next tutorial we will see how to declare single and multi dimensional array in Java.
